Chop Chop Inc Axes and Tools

Chop Chop Inc is a first-person woodcutting sim, so your axe is not flavor — it is the gate on mines, rare trees, and the secret developer room. NullRef Entertainment and rokaplay select shipped the Windows Steam release on August 7, 2026 at $12.99 / €12.99. Hotfix #4 on August 11, 2026 did not change axe recipes, but it doubled auto-harvester speed and halved metal-ingot wood cost, which changes how fast you can afford later tool loops. Wooden axe — Your new love

The first wooden axe is automatic. The Steam achievement Your new love pops when you pick it up during the opening tutorial (“Yeah yeah, Chester…”). You do not need a recipe. Use it for common birch, apple, and nearby hardwood while you build the workbench, mailbox, and first saw. It is slow on stone wood and cannot break the mine boulders or the hidden developer door.

Sharpen early. The tutorial and Getting Started both push grindstone use because dull edges waste stamina. Do not max every wooden-axe upgrade before crafting stone — community routes confirm you can craft the stone axe without taking the wooden line to its last tier.

Stone axe — the real progression gate

The stone axe is the first tool that changes the map. It opens the roadside tunnel into the mines (Shelldon’s dynamite chain) and is the documented door tool for You found our secret base.

Recipe and grindstone

Verified craft cost after the windmill / island sequence:

You still need the grindstone upgrade that consumes stone wood before the recipe is usable. Talk to Sir Worcestershire III on the pink-leaf island after you cut the stone tree blocking his view. The wooden axe can fell that tree; it just takes longer.

How to reach stone wood

1. Finish Chester’s tutorial bridge across the water.
2. Repair the windmill and collect the clogs that let you walk on water.
3. Cross to the island with the pink-leaf stone tree.
4. Chop the blocking stone tree, speak with Sir Worcestershire III, upgrade the grindstone, then craft 1 birch + 2 stone wood.

If the recipe never appears, you skipped the grindstone upgrade or never harvested stone wood. Reaching the island is not enough.

Mines unlock (Shelldon)

After you build armor for Shelldon, the next ask is dynamite from the mines. The roadside tunnel near the starting camp is blocked by boulders. Equip the stone axe, break the rocks, and enter. This is a story gate, not an optional detour. Hamster Home, the cogwheel lever, and later Hamstertech all sit past mine infrastructure, so delaying the stone axe stalls automation even if your furniture yard looks busy.

The same tunnel system hides the developer door. Do not confuse the two: the mine path is the lit / boulder route; the secret base is the pitch-black continuation, right turn, traffic cone, then the door you break with the stone axe. Full cone route lives on Secret Base.

Golden axe and Chopper

The developer room contains a cycling tree (apple → walnut → birch → metal → electric → palm → stone → crystal → apple) that a golden axe can cycle quickly, plus a pickup axe named Chopper. EasyBoarder’s walkthrough of the room also surfaces a developer balloon that literally says Find the golden axe — treat that as an in-world hint, not a keypad code. Community write-ups place a high-tier golden axe on a mountain route later in the save; the King of the Hill climb is the right exploration window, not a day-one detour.

Chopper is a souvenir / cosmetic-leaning pickup inside the secret base. It does not replace the stone axe requirement for the door you already opened. Grab it after the achievement pops, then leave — the room also has developer balloons (Kathy, Wolfgang, Daniel, Felix, Paul, Sebastien), a hamster wheel, and (after Hotfix #4) no faulty QR code.

Grindstone, stamina, and when to upgrade

Tool power is wasted if you are exhausted. Cook before long stone-wood or mine runs — see How to Cook and Boost Stats and Character Stats and Exercise. Strength shortens felled-tree time; stamina decides whether you can haul stone wood back to the grindstone in one trip.

Upgrade order that matches Getting Started and Upgrades Tier List:

1. Sharpen the wooden axe enough to clear the island tree.
2. Craft stone axe as soon as 2 stone wood + 1 birch are in inventory.
3. Open mines for Shelldon, then immediately run the secret-base cone route so you do not forget the door.
4. Chase golden axe during mountain / late exploration, not before Mid Game automation is stable.

Hotfix #4’s faster auto harvesters reduce how often you personally chop common trees. Keep the stone axe on a hotbar anyway — boulders, secret doors, and stone trees still want a player swing.
