Secret Base and Stone Axe

The Chop Chop Inc secret base — the developer room behind a concealed tunnel door — is one of the most searched post-launch secrets on the full Windows Steam release (App ID 4369130). It unlocks the Steam achievement You found our secret base. This route was rechecked against builds through Hotfix #3 (August 7–9, 2026). The free demo (App ID 4707740) is outside the verified scope of this page.

Do not turn this into a late-game mountain expedition. Readable English community routes place the room in the tunnel near the starting entrance, gated by the stone axe, not by Snowy Mountain climbs, electric-tree zones, or invented keys.

Pair this page with Secret Locations, Steam Achievements, Getting Started, and Patch Notes so tool gates and hotfix context stay aligned.

Two problems, not one scavenger hunt

Treat the achievement as a tool problem plus an orientation problem:

ProblemFailure signalFix
ToolDoor visible but will not yieldCraft and equip the stone axe
OrientationNo door at allReset from the tunnel black section and traffic cone

The wooden starter axe is not the documented door tool. Seeing the correct door without the stone axe only creates a wasted return trip.

Part 1 — Craft the stone axe

Finish this chain before you commit to searching the tunnel:

  1. Build the tutorial bridge across the water. Bridge repair belongs to opening progression — the secret room label does not mean late-game access.
  2. Repair the windmill and collect the water-walking clogs. Test that you can stay on the water surface before hunting the material island. If you sink, the windmill reward is still missing.
  3. Cross to the island with the pink-leaf stone tree. Harvest that distinct tree for stone wood. Leaf color is the useful cue; ordinary nearby lumber does not supply the documented material.
  4. Upgrade the grindstone, then craft the stone axe. Reaching the island is not the final check — confirm the crafted tool itself.

Keep grindstone upgrade and stone-axe craft in that order. Reaching the island only proves the clogs step is finished; the concealed door still needs the crafted tool.

Part 2 — Tunnel landmarks

Return to the tunnel near the beginning / starting entrance:

  1. Walk toward the rear until the passage turns black. Step slightly into that dark section before changing direction. Use the black transition as your reset point — turning in the brighter section leaves you without a reliable bearing.
  2. From the black area, turn right and look for a traffic cone.
  3. Walk all the way to the cone. Do not start wall-checking as soon as the cone enters view.
  4. At the cone, turn around. The concealed door should now be visible behind you. The cone works as a pivot, not as a marker sitting beside the entrance.
  5. Strike the door with the stone axe. When it opens, enter the developer room. Door visibility is not completion; entering the room closes the achievement You found our secret base.

If the door does not appear, return to the black transition and repeat only this short sequence: enter darkness → turn right → reach cone → turn around. Widening the search into mines, cities, or mountain climbs is unsupported for this route.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Hunting Snowy Mountain, deep mines, or maximum axe tiers for this specific achievement
  • Testing the door with the wooden starter axe
  • Searching the bright tunnel entrance instead of resetting from the black section
  • Treating door visibility as the unlock — you must step inside
  • Assuming the Steam demo uses the same tunnel layout without verifying

How this ties to progression

Stone wood and the stone axe also feed mid-game crafting and rare-tree pacing. After the achievement, fold stone materials into How to Find Rare Trees, Tree Types, and Early Game Walkthrough so the secret detour still advances your economy.

City factions and money milestones on Steam Achievements are separate completion tracks — the secret base does not replace Bye Bye Furnox or faction mission lines.

Stability note for day-one owners

If story progress softlocks after building the cannon foundation, update to Hotfix #3 or later before blaming the tunnel route. Softlocks and crashes share the same first aid on Crash Troubleshooting.

Chop Chop Inc hides its developer room early — once you own the stone axe and respect the black tunnel and traffic cone, the secret base stops being a late-game myth and becomes a short, precise route.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common Chop Chop Inc questions.

Where is the Chop Chop Inc secret base?

Behind a concealed door in the tunnel near the starting entrance. Reach the black section, turn right to a traffic cone, turn around to reveal the door, break it with the stone axe, and enter.

Do I need a late-game axe for You found our secret base?

No. Documented routes require the crafted stone axe after the bridge, windmill clogs, pink-leaf stone wood, and grindstone upgrade — not mountain-tier tools.

Why will the secret door not open?

Most often you lack the stone axe, or you are searching the bright tunnel instead of resetting from the black area and traffic cone.

Does entering the room unlock an achievement?

Yes. Crossing into the developer room unlocks You found our secret base on Steam.

Was this route checked on the full release?

Yes — verified against the Windows full release through Hotfix #3 around August 9, 2026. Demo layouts may differ.
